'Rapide' services between South wales and London had begun in May 1982, initially using MAN SR280s hired from Trathens (Yelverton). The service featured on-board films, catering and fast journey times which at one point rivalled those of travel by rail. The first 'Caribbean' coaches were introduced in May 1983.
