On 1st November 1987, 43159 set the record as the world’s fastest diesel travelling at 148.5mph between Northallerton and Thirsk. The record still stands today and is perhaps enough to secure 43159's future in preservation in a few years' time.

A busy view looking east with 1B28, the 1145 London Paddington to Swansea approaching platform 9 and a SWT class 458 departing from the refurbished 'southern' platforms on a service to London Waterloo.
Platform 10 is one of the busy up main platforms. In this view, 1A14, the 1100 Bristol Temple Meads to London Paddington calls on 11th May 2013. When the new depot has been commissioned, a flyover will be constructed to take GWML trains over those on the Southampton line.
Part of the old Reading station which will be retained is the 'listed' office block and clock tower on platform 7. 43124 rolls into platform 7 bang on time with 1C81, 1206 London Paddington to Penzance on 11th May 2013. The through road now has been lifted and platform 7 will soon be widened and straightened.
