The English Electric Class 50 fleet was built in 1967-1968 (as D400-D449) to haul express passenger trains on the (then) non-electrified, section of the West Coast Main Line between Crewe, Carlisle and Scotland. The views in this section date from the mid 1970s when they were transferred to the Western Region, working mainline passenger services from London Paddington to the West Country and Oxford. Out of a class of 50 locomotives, 18 have been preserved.
